Microsoft has decided to not to release any future update of Service Pack 2 for its most successful windows till now Windows Xp. From 13 July 2010, no future security fix will be available for Win XP Service pack2. However, for other versions of Windows xp, the updates would be continuously releasing in the future. Along with Windows XP service pack 2, Microsoft has also decided to diminish the Vista updates from 13 April, 2010. No doubt, Vista failed to get as much recognition in the market as Microsoft predicted. Microsoft will discontinue vista’s security fixes also.

How to know which OS version you are running
If you are using Windows XP, follow these steps:
Click Start–>Run and type winver and press Enter key.
The below image shows your Version Information:

For Windows Vista, do as follows:
Click Start button and type winver in the search box and press Enter key.
You will get an image as below:

So, if you are using any of the above 2 OS, switch to any other OS if you want future fixes of your operating system. If you are using Service pack 2 or vista and are happy with the current releases and can reject this Microsoft’s warning, you can continue with as usual.

Microsoft is soon going to release a new update (KB971033) for its recently launched Windows7. This update in the way is meaningful for Microsoft and to users using Hacked windows7 on their systems. KB971033 will check the Windows Genuinity and if windows be found non-genuine, it will prompt users to get Licensed Windows from Microsoft else the user will lack numerous new windows features. The customized wallpaper will turn into old plain one.

As per Windows blog,

Windows Activation Technologies Update for Windows 7 will be able detect more than 70 known and potentially dangerous activation cracks or exploits. Activation exploits are sometimes called “hacks”, and attempt to bypass or compromise Windows’ activation technologies.

What to do if you have Pirated Windows7 on your systems.

The simplest way to excuse from this check is to turn-off your Windows updates.

For Turning-off Windows7 updates, go to Control Panel –> System and Security –> Windows Update –> Change settings. Under Important updates, select Never check for updates (not recommended).

You can also select Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them . But then you have to be careful that this update might not be installed. So its good to select Never check for updates (not recommended).

NOTE: If you are using Genuine Microsoft Windows, you need not to worry. Update will be installed in background and you can carry on with your normal work.
